GENERAL OUTLOOK FOR THE FORECAST PERIOD
• NANMADOL is forecast to gradually accelerate west northwestward today through tomorrow, then turn more northwestward on Saturday. On the track forecast, it may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) region tonight or tomorrow morning. Once inside the PAR, the domestic name “JOSIE” will be assigned to this tropical cyclone.
• NANMADOL was upgraded to severe tropical storm category at 2:00 AM today. Present forecast scenario shows that this tropical cyclone will reach typhoon category within 24 hours.
• This tropical storm is forecast to remain far from the Philippine landmass and not directly affect the weather condition in the country. However, it may enhance the Southwest Monsoon within the forecast period. As such, monsoon rains are possible over the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in the next 24 hours. For more information, refer to the 24-Hour Public Weather Forecast issued at 4:00 AM today. Furthermore, the issuance of a Weather Advisory is not ruled out should heavy rains become more likely.
• The enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon may also bring gusty conditions reaching strong breeze to near-gale strength (especially in coastal and mountainous/upland areas) over Visayas, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, and the northern and western portions of Mindanao.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to continue monitoring for updates related to this tropical cyclone.
Unless an intermediate advisory or initial tropical cyclone bulletin is released, the next tropical cyclone advisory will be issued at 11:00 AM today.
