Issued at 5:00 AM, 14 September 2022
Valid for broadcast until the next advisory at 11:00 AM today
THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OUTSIDE THE PHILIPPINE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (PAR) INTENSIFIED INTO TROPICAL STORM “NANMADOL”
Location of Center (4:00 AM)
•The center of the Tropical Storm NANMADOL was estimated based on all available data at 1,910 km East of Extreme Northern Luzon (Outside the PAR) (22.6°N, 140.2°E)
Intensity
•Maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 80 km/h, and central pressure of 996 hPa
Present Movement
•East northeastward at 10 km/h
Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds
•Strong to gale-force winds extend outwards up to 380 km from the center
GENERAL OUTLOOK FOR THE FORECAST PERIOD
• NANMADOL is forecast to track generally northeastward in the next several hours before sharply turning northwestward for the remainder of today. It will then accelerate west northwestward tomorrow through Friday towards the northeastern portion of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). On the track forecast, it may enter the PAR region on Thursday evening or Friday morning. Once inside the PAR, the domestic name “JOSIE” will be assigned to this tropical cyclone.
• NANMADOL intensified into a Tropical Storm at 2:00 AM. Improving environmental conditions by tomorrow will enable the tropical cyclone to further intensify. Current forecast scenario shows that this tropical cyclone will enter the PAR as a typhoon.
• This tropical storm is forecast to remain far from the Philippine landmass and not directly affect the weather condition in the country. However, it may enhance the Southwest Monsoon within the forecast period. This may bring monsoon rains over the western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas beginning today or tomorrow. As such, the issuance of a Weather Advisory is not ruled out should heavy rains become possible or likely.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to continue monitoring for updates related to this tropical cyclone.
Unless an intermediate advisory or initial tropical cyclone bulletin is released, the next tropical cyclone advisory will be issued at 11:00 AM today.
