Issued at 5:00 AM, 13 September 2022
Valid for broadcast until the next advisory at 11:00 AM today
THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OUTSIDE THE PHILIPPINE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY CONTINUES TO MEANDER OVER THE PHILIPPINE SEA
Location of Center (4:00 AM)
•The center of the Tropical Depression was estimated based on all available data at 1,720 km East of Extreme Northern Luzon (Outside the PAR) (21.8°N, 138.5°E)
Intensity
•Maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and central pressure of 1000 hPa
Present Movement
•Eastward Slowly
Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds
•Strong winds extend outwards up to 150 km from the center
GENERAL OUTLOOK FOR THE FORECAST PERIOD
• The tropical depression is forecast to drift generally east northeastward or become almost stationary for the next 36 hours before sharply turning northwestward or west northwestward on Thursday while accelerating. On the track forecast, it may enter the PAR region on Thursday afternoon or evening. Once inside the PAR, the domestic name “JOSIE” will be assigned to this tropical cyclone.
• Modest intensification is likely today through tomorrow. By Thursday, improving environmental conditions will enable the tropical cyclone to intensify at a relatively faster rate. Current forecast scenario shows that this tropical cyclone will enter the PAR as a typhoon.
• This tropical cyclone is forecast to remain far from the Philippine landmass and not directly affect the weather condition in the country. However, it may enhance the Southwest Monsoon within the forecast period. This may bring monsoon rains over the western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas beginning tomorrow or on Thursday. As such, the issuance of a Weather Advisory is not ruled out should heavy rains become possible or likely.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to continue monitoring for updates related to this tropical cyclone.
Unless an intermediate advisory or initial tropical cyclone bulletin is released, the next tropical cyclone advisory will be issued at 11:00 AM today.
